About Mike

Mike in brief

I can’t stay still. I’m sports mad — no Olympian but a Jack of all trades — and hungry for life. I’ve always been the same. I’m driven: even as a child I drove everyone mad — I was always up to mischief; I lived outdoors, doing sports or riding my motocross bike.

Mike taking a different view of Perth, Australia

At school I played provincial rugby football, and competed at athletics and swimming at provincial levels. Later I rowed, windsurfed and skied to a very high standard. Then I discovered girls. Frankly I’ve never forgotten them (and I moved to America to marry the best one I’ve ever met, my greatest inspiration, Helen).

I got a degree in graphic design at Canterbury and began my career in London. I discovered that I had a natural aptitude for business. Life was good: I worked hard and played hard, but I needed to move on: at age twenty-six I took a year off and traveled. I worked all over the world, ending up in a design company in Perth, Australia, before moving back to London to join multinational Interbrand. There I rose to the top, becoming a creative director, making key, corporate presentations under pressure.

Mike Taylor, Chair-Man

Life was good, very good; and then a mild limp became something else, something much more. As time passed I had to make a stark choice: to fight or flee, to do or die.

To find the opportunity.

So am I going to go on and on about the hardships and the heartbreak of life with MS now?

No way!

When I quit focusing on what MS had "taken" from me and gave my attention to what my possibilities were, everything opened up. I’m in a brand new phase of my life and truly feel that I can inspire others to get over their seeming "disabilities" and go for the gusto.

It's not always easy. It never is, is it? You need what I call the ABC’s: An upbeat
Attitude, Belief in the possibility and steady Commitment. But if you're willing, anything is possible, right?

Right?
