Tell us about yourself ... I’m just a stubborn, independent, ordinary English bloke who got diagnosed with MS in the prime of my personal and professional life and was forced to cut short my career as a creative director of a multinational branding company.
Not long after that I decided that this was the last thing I was going to cut short. Who are you? I'm the Chair-Man of the Domain of Opportunity. What do you do? I don't let anything get in the way of what I want in my life. I focus on the opportunity, not the obstacle. And I've developed a presentation and a system to encourage and inspire others to get over themselves and reach for the brass ring! How do you do that? I'm a public speaker, a spokesman, I’m writing a book. If you've got an audience, I get in my chair and come to you. What's in it for the audience? Their lives! I'm a slap in the face, I'm a wake up call. I am a cold-blast reminder that whatever you focus on, that’s what you get. If you focus your attention on your disabilities, welcome to your life! Frankly, most people don't have a disability as dramatic as MS. They see themselves as "not enough" — not thin enough, not creative enough, not smart enough, not educated enough — whatever. And they become obsessed with their "not enough-ness". So life just continues to agree with them. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy, isn't it? Life is to be lived and I encourage people to live it. I use my own life as an example of how to focus away from the black hole (of what you can’t do) and focus on what you can. That's the Domain of Opportunity. Here's the point: if this English chap with MS can have a life of challenge, love, creativity, if he can go around the globe speaking, with a great wife to greet him when he comes home, what's holding you back? |
